Walk in Her Shoes - 10 Oct 2025

With some friends I attended the launch of ‘Walk In Her Shoes’, a moving collection of stories from women who have survived homelessness, that will travel across Victoria through 2026.

Bree, Diana & Vanessa delivered their stories of homelessness. To them a home means: family, safety, dignity, a future, opportunities, everything. 

We heard the heartbreak from Leanne at Community Information & Support Centre Cranbourne, who spoke of being forced to give out vouchers for tents because no other shelter is available.

And we were reminded that having access to Public Housing supports health and wellbeing, and provides people the space to contribute to their community.

Homelessness shouldn’t happen in Australia — not when we have the wealth and capacity to fix it.

Public housing isn’t charity. It’s an investment in people, in potential, and in community strength.

It’s time to declare a state of emergency on housing and rebuild a system that guarantees everyone the security of a home.
